From the Society President

Greetings,

Herbert Hoover once said, "Fishing is much more than fish. It is the great occasion when we may return to the fine simplicity of our forefathers."

Many countless hours went into the planning of yet another successful tournament. The large crowd of spectators in attendance proved once again that the De Soto Fishing Tournament is a very popular event.

We opened the event Friday afternoon with the Captain's meeting at one of our community partners and hosts of the 2011 tournament, the Bradenton Yacht Club. However, Saturday is when the real excitement begins. The shotgun start was once again a "blast" as boats powered off to the cool (wishful thinking) Tampa Bay Breeze. Sunday's weigh-in brought heightened anticipation as local folks of all ages lined up along the docks and banks of the beautiful Manatee River to marvel at the catch. Yes, the finale is always grand!

This tournament would not have been a success without the anglers. Some of whom are true alumni, coming back year upon year to support this event. Whether you are a veteran of this tournament or this was your first year to join us, we want to express our hearty thanks to you. We also encourage each of you to support our tournament sponsors and advertisers, local businesses who have given countless hours to planning and supporting our event that was memorable for both the competitors as well as the spectators.

And to those of you who served tirelessly to plan the 15th Annual De Soto Fishing Tournament, a huge 'Thank You!' Butch Powell, Roy McKenzie, Tony Noble and their team did a great job planning this year's event. This is no easy job, and we recognize you for that!

Congratulations to all,

Charlie Hackney, President, 2011-12

From the Event Chairman

On behalf of the hard working committee, I would like to Thank all of our Tourmanent Sponsors for your continued support of our mission to give back to our community.  Without the support of these people and their businesses this event would not be possible.  I would ask that we all visit and support these sponsors and their advertisers>

I would also like to thank all of the fishermen! This tournament would not be possible without your participation. I wish you all good luck, great fishing, good weather and most of all a safe weekend.

A big thank you to our tournament committee for all your hard work and dedication to this tournament. I cannot say thank you enough to Hernando De Soto’s Executive Director, Sharon McGlynn and Administrative Assistant, Kelly Stasurak. You are the best.
